Progressive Radiology hosts Ali’s Angels Charity Golf Tournament benefiting an Eastern Shore Family.

On June 10th, 2013 at Green Hill Yacht and Country Club in Quantico Maryland, Progressive Radiology hosted the 1st Annual Ali’s Angels Golf Tournament.

Ali’s Angels is a charity organized in 2012 by friends of Ali Eaton and her family. Due to a motor vehicle accident at the age of 14, Ali suffered a fractured spine and is paralyzed from the chest down. Ali’s Angels goal is to raise funds in order to help Ali with her ongoing medical expenses resulting from her paralysis.

The Ali’s Angels Charity Golf Tournament provided an opportunity for local and national businesses as well as members of the community to donate their time and raise funds benefiting Ali’s Angels.

By hosting and sponsoring Ali's Angels golf tournament, Progressive Radiology raised just shy of $5,000.00 to help Ali and her family with medical expenses that continuously arise due to Ali’s condition.

Progressive Radiology was represented by Michael Greene (Director of Operations), George Larkin (Regional Marketing Manager), Steve Costello (Regional Marketing Manager), Beth McGinty and Lauren Laws (Clinical Liaisons for the Eastern Shore), all enjoyed a beautiful day of golf.

Pictured below Ali with her dad.

Progressive Radiology's Olney MRI Center is pleased to announce the installation of a new state of the art GE Discovery MR750W 3T Wide Bore MRI scanner.

The Discovery MR750W 3T scanner is one of the first of its kind, not only in the Olney region, but also in the country.

The Discovery MR750W 3T is designed specifically for enhanced patient comfort as well as superior image quality.

The Discovery MR750W 3T offers:

· Higher quality images than routine 1.5T MRI scanners, allowing our radiologists to better diagnose your problems with greater confidence. Our radiologists now find lesions, tears and sprains that were difficult to identify in the past, giving your doctor an extremely clear image of what's wrong before having to operate.

· Patients can enter the scanner either head first or feet first, depending on the exam and patient preference.

· Improved acoustics allow the patient to more easily receive communications from outside the room and listen to a variety of music.

· The tube where the patient is scanned is 36% larger than those of traditional MRI’s of the past.

· Exams take less time.

· The MRI machine uses a magnet twice as powerful as the traditional MRI machines of the past.

The Discovery MR750W 3T scanner enhances Olney’s accreditation as a Center of Excellence, allowing all patients to receive the same state-of-the-art medical treatment as professional athletes.

Top Ten Reasons to Choose Progressive Radiology for Women's Imaging by Dr. Wilkens

$
0
0

Breast cancer in the United States is still the most common cancer in women, despite your race or ethnicity!

Risk Factors

Research has found several risk factors that may increase your chances of getting breast cancer.  Risk factors that increase risk of breast cancer include;

  •  Getting older.
  •  Being younger when you first had your menstrual period.
  •  Starting menopause at a later age.
  •  Being older at the birth of your first child.
  •  Never giving birth.
  •  Personal history of breast cancer or some non-cancerous breast diseases.
  •  Family history of breast cancer (mother, sister, daughter).
  •  Treatment with radiation therapy to the breast/chest.
  •  Being overweight (increases risk for breast cancer after menopause).
  •  Long-term use of hormone replacement therapy (estrogen and progesterone combined).
  •  Having changes in the breast cancer-related genes BRCA1 or BRCA2.
  •  Using birth control pills, also called oral contraceptives.
  •  Drinking alcohol (more than one drink a day).
  •  Not getting regular exercise.

Having a risk factor does not mean you will get the disease. Most women have some risk factors but most women do not get breast cancer. If you have breast cancer risk factors, talk with your medical provider about ways you can decrease your risk and about screening for breast cancer.

TOP TEN REASONS
TO CHOOSE PROGRESSIVE RADIOLOGY
FOR WOMEN’S IMAGING

1. Board certified radiologists specializing in women’s imaging interpret your exam.
2. On-site women’s imager is available for immediate consultation, interpretation and recommendations.
3. Experienced and caring mammography technologists perform your exam.
4. We only use advanced technologies including digital mammography.
5.  We have an extremely high accuracy rate (well above the national rate) for detecting breast cancer.
6. We are the only center in Harford County that offers the Mammo Pad for a gentler, more comfortable mammogram with better breast acquisition.
7. We deliver fast results to your doctor and quick response letters to you after your exam.
8. We have highly skilled breast ultrasound technologists who work in a collaborative team approach toward your diagnosis.
9. We offer easy scheduling either by phone or on-line with convenient appointment availability to accommodate your busy lifestyle.
10. We agree with many highly respected organizations regarding breast cancer screening recommendations.  Among these include the American Cancer Society, American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, National Cancer Institute, American College of Radiology, the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Breast Imaging.  Below are our guidelines based on the most current research:

These are our screening guidelines:

  • Yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continuing for as long as a woman is in good health
  • Clinical breast exam (CBE) about every 3 years for women in their 20s and 30s and every year for women 40 and over

We believe women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any changes to their health care provider. Breast self-exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20s.

We encourage all women to talk with their health care provider about whether high risk factors warrant earlier and more frequent screening.

Progressive Radiology Offers Low Cost/Low Dose Lung Cancer Screening Exam

$
0
0

Consider a low dose CT scan for lung cancer screening.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death of both men and women in the United States. Each year more people die of lung cancer than breast, colon, and prostate cancers combined. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer and secondhand smoke increases your risk of developing lung cancer. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), at least 3,000 nonsmokers per year die from lung cancer related to secondhand smoke.

Lung cancer is more common in adults over 50 years of age. Other risk factors that may increase the risk of developing lung cancer:

Asbestos
High levels of air pollution
Family history of lung cancer
Radon gas exposure
Exposure to cancer causing chemicals possibly related to occupation
(chloromethyl ethers, gasoline, beryllium, mustard gas, uranium, vinyl chloride, nickel chromates, coal products, diesel exhaust)

If you fit into any of the categories above, and you are currently asymptomatic, then you maybe a perfect candidate for a low radiation dose CT scan of your chest to evaluate your lungs for early signs of lung cancer.
The rationale for having this test is based on a major scientific study called the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which compared two methods of early detection of lung cancer: chest X-ray and low-dose CT scans. The results showed that participants who received low-dose CT scans had a 20 % lower risk of dying from lung cancer than those who received chest X-rays.

These results are very promising and may offer hope to hundreds of thousands of people. However, because this is the first study to show that lung cancer screening may save lives, and has not yet been widely accepted as a routine screening practice, most insurance plans do not cover the cost of the exam.
Progressive Radiology is excited to offer this service at our Bel Air and Salisbury Sweetbay Drive locations at the low cost of $95.00.

The exam itself takes only a few minutes, needs no preparation, is painless (no injection), and is safe. Your images will be interpreted by a board certified radiologist and a written report will be sent to your medical provider. You will leave our office with your own copy of your exam on a CD ROM.
What is your piece of mind worth to you?

Ask your medical provider today if you are a candidate for this screening. Schedule your appointment on-line or by calling our office. We also offer same day walk-in appointments. Please bring your prescription with you at the time of your exam.
